folkestone art and culture

a town reborn through art

Over the past twenty years Folkestone has become a beacon for regeneration through art. The Folkestone Triennial is an important event in the British contemporary art calendar and the town now has the UK’s largest collection of outdoor contemporary sculpture. Alongside this, there is a broad range of cultural programming spanning music, art, film, and theatre taking place across the town.

Folkestone has as emerged as a thriving center for art and culture. Its unique blend of history, creativity, and coastal beauty has attracted artists, musicians, and cultural enthusiasts from around the world.

Folkestone triennial

Art is everywhere in Folkestone thanks to this international public art festival that takes place every three years, showcasing a diverse range of contemporary artworks in public spaces throughout the town. From thought-provoking installations to immersive experiences, Folkestone Triennial presents a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge art in a stunning coastal setting.

Many of the artworks remain in Folkestone and the town now proudly boasts the largest collection of public contemporary art in the UK with over 90 site specific works on show across town from leading artists including Anthony Gormley, Tracey Emin, Gilbert & George and Yoko Ono.

Folkestone Triennial 2025 runs from 19 July to 19 October with exciting new site-specific works at Folkestone Harbour, the East Cliff and around town. Come to our Open Day on July 21st for guided tours followed by drinks on the terrace of one of our beachfront homes.
